Yesterday I moved in with my homestay family. I feel like these are the moments that need to be written down. My parents are lovely. My dad poured me Great Wall brand wine for my first dinner. My mom made a delicious meal of bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage, a whole fish, cucumbers, and rice. Very healthy, and not saturated in oil, unlike most Chinese dishes served in restaurants. Every night after dinner my family goes for a walk, its so cute. I also have a mei mei (little sister) nicknamed Tien Tien (Sky) who is starting her first year of college this fall.
She is also very sweet and helps translate if there's confusion (happens to me a lot). My dad is a business exec of some kind and my mom teaches Chinese to foreigners at Bei Wai (my university) and her name is the same as my mom's name in pingyin (Lina).

This morning after a corn porridge and leftovers with steamed bread breakfast, I played ping pong with my mom, went to the biggest mall in Asia (1 1/2 times bigger than the Mall of America!) which is literally a 5 min walk from my doorstep and ate some Korean BBQ & kimchee. yum. hen haochi. I went to church, whose choir I'm thinking about joining, and came home for another tasty dinner of ck, cabbage, tomato and egg, and bean rice porridge which was awesome with sugar. My dad helped me work on my pronunciation twice (tones are definitely a challanging part!) , and my mom also helped me with reading and writing stoke order. Then Tien Tian played her mini piano and whistle combo and I was unexpectedly given a guitar when they asked me if I could play. I'm glad I can still play Mary had a little lamb and part of a Get Up Kids song. Then me & my dad played ping pong (there's literally a ping pong table in our living room :D), then while looking at my map of Beijing, my parents said they'd be happy to show me around the city on weekends. They used the word "tour guide" in Chinese, translated it, and laughed. I said "tebie goaxing" "especially happy". I am.
